Rifò garments are recycled: we select our materials based on these requirements, choosing natural, biodegradable materials composed of at least 50% recycled fibers. Then there is a third, fundamental requirement: transparency.
We try as far as possible to rely only on producers capable of guaranteeing the traceability and ethics of the supply chain, as well as reliable studies and data on the impacts of sustainable production.
Are recycled fibers really of lower quality than virgin ones?
To find out as accurately as possible, we went to an analysis laboratory and stress-tested 7 different categories of our garments in recycled wool and cashmere.
Through physical tests that simulate months of daily use in just a few hours, we objectively measured the performance of the materials by analyzing three key factors:
Pilling
How many pills form on the surface of the knit.
Matting
How long it takes for the fabric to change appearance and lose its color vibrancy.
Fuzzing
Whether and how much excess fiber or fuzz is released by the garment.
The results from the test lab are clear: our garments achieved an average score of 4 out of 5 (“very good”). This means that the performance of Rifò’s recycled yarns is fully comparable to that of virgin cashmere and wool sweaters.
