Frequently asked questions
Why is it called a balaclava?
The name “balaclava” comes from the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War in 1854. British soldiers wore knitted headgear to protect themselves from the cold. Since then, this type of head covering has taken the name of that place.
How to style the balaclava?
It may seem tricky, but it’s actually super comfy and versatile. Worn under a coat, it can replace a scarf and create a clean look. You can wear it on your head or keep it down like a hood, ready to use.
What is the difference between a balaclava and a neck warmer?
A balaclava covers your head, neck, and part of the face, offering full protection from the cold. A neckwarmer protects just the neck but can be pulled up over the nose. Both are practical: the balaclava suits colder climates, while the neckwarmer is lighter for everyday use.
What is a balaclava for?
A balaclava protects your head, ears, and neck from cold and wind. It’s perfect for winter — in the city, the mountains, or when traveling. Rifò’s models are warm yet breathable, made from sustainable recycled yarns.
What is the origin of the balaclava?
The balaclava has military origins: it was used by soldiers to protect themselves from the cold. Today, it’s a unisex accessory reimagined with an urban and sustainable twist, loved for its practicality and contemporary style.
