Who is Rifò
From the Italian verb "rifare"
Rifò is a Tuscan inflection of the verb "rifare" (meaning "to remake, to redo"), a name that takes up the tradition of textile recycling born in Prato and which has been handed down for over a century.
It is precisely in this textile district, an excellence of Italian craftsmanship, that we have chosen to produce our garments. The proximity of the supply chain allows us to reduce transportation distances compared to a delocalized production and to monitor the processing stages more closely.
Rifò is an adventure
Rifò was born in 2017 to provide an answer to the problem of overproduction in the clothing industry: mountains of unsold clothes destined for the incinerator, the result of an economic system based on quantity and not quality. This is the panorama observed by Niccolò Cipriani, founder of Rifò, who at that moment is in Vietnam for a United Nations programme.
So he has an idea, leaves everything and returns to his city, Prato, where there is a tradition linked to textile recycling born centuries ago, when recycling was the fruit of common sense. From a successful crowdfunding Rifò quickly transformed into a sustainable clothing startup and grew constantly, until it closed two rounds of investments and now has a team of around 25 people.
Furthermore, in 2020 Rifò becomes a B Corp, a certification that rewards companies that are committed to having a positive social and environmental impact. Today Rifò products are sold, as well as online, in more than 400 stores in Italy and abroad.
"We produce more than we buy. We buy more than our real needs. Is this how we imagine the future?"
Niccolò, CEO & Founder of Rifò
Circular fashion
We carefully select recycled, natural and biodegradable materials. These characteristics make our garments long-lasting and recyclable once again. By using fine fibers such as cashmere and wool, we create new valuable sustainable products, giving new life to what was once considered waste.
Lower environmental impact
We choose recycled materials to reduce their environmental impact compared to corresponding virgin alternatives. For materials for which we have LCA data, we make the estimated savings in water and CO₂ visible on our website. It is also important for us to rethink our consumption models: for this reason, we offer pre-orders to avoid waste and produce according to real demand.
Greater social impact
We want to have a positive impact on society. Our production takes place within 30 km from our office, allowing us to support ethical production and local companies often at risk of economic instability. Furthermore, we have created Nei Nostri Panni, a project that combines the social integration of migrants with generational renewal for these artisan crafts that are key to the Made in Italy tradition.
Note on Certification
The “B Corporation Certification” is a brand that is licensed by B Lab, a private non-profit organization, to companies that, like ours, have successfully passed the B Impact Assessment (“BIA”) and therefore meet the required requirements by B Lab in terms of social and environmental performance, responsibility and transparency. It is specified that B Lab is not a conformity assessment body pursuant to Regulation (EU) no. 765/2008 or a national, European or international standardization body pursuant to Regulation (EU) no. 1025/2012. The BIA criteria are distinct and autonomous from the harmonized standards resulting from ISO standards or other standardization bodies and are not ratified by national or European public institutions.
But also much more
We show our face, we disseminate the topic of sustainable fashion. Behind every Rifò garment there is a group of passionate people who strongly believe in all this and who work every day to build a different way of conceiving clothing.
